Context: right after Update 0.8.0
Update 0.8.0 (October 17, 2026) reworked armor penetration, ammo stats, loot, staged reloads, and AI. Two days later, Hotfix 0.8.8 (October 19, 2026) shipped player-facing quality fixes that matter for everyday loadouts. Full dated synthesis: Early Access update history. Deep combat rules: ammo types and armor penetration.
Changes that affect loadouts
- Magazine ammo memory — each magazine remembers its ammo type. Reloading an empty magazine refills the same type. Example from the notes: sidearm stays on AP while the main gun uses FMJ.
- Unload / Remove Sight / Remove Muzzle now work on guns inside containers, your stash, and corpses — faster part salvage without awkward inventory shuffling.
- Dried Steak now needs Salt, and it turns up more often in loot (developer statement; not a measured rate from this wiki).
These three items change how you stage mixed ammo kits after 0.8.0’s AP/HP/FMJ split.
Fixes worth knowing
- Accepting Catching Current with a full backpack no longer loses Anatoly’s Detector; it drops at your feet. Saves stuck without it get the Detector back on load. Other dialogue rewards also drop on the ground instead of vanishing when the backpack is full.
- Clicking the Map tab while the map is open no longer breaks the map or brings the HUD back over the Journal.
- Leaving a dialogue while it is still opening now closes the dialogue screen.
- Controller: Take All (Left Stick) no longer switches your gun.
- Fixed an error when loading a save inside a bunker with an active job.
How to use ammo memory (editorial)
- Dedicate magazines or guns to AP vs FMJ vs HP instead of swapping rounds mid-fight.
- After looting a corpse gun, unload and strip optics/muzzles before stuffing the frame into stash.
- Keep backpack space for quest hand-ins — rewards now drop, but ground loot can still be missed in chaos.
- Re-read weapon customization when planning part salvage routes.
